Prevention and Home Remedies of Cat Ear Mites
Prevention
As the popular saying goes, "prevention is better than cure". This is because prevention requires less effort and less resource. It is very important to make sure that your cat is free from ear mites because they are contagious and can also infect other animals that live in the same household. To prevent ear mites from dwelling in your cat’s ears, it is important to clean your cat’s ears regularly. Although this does not really kill them, it prevents ear mites from finding your cat’s ears as an ideal place to live in.
When the ears are properly cleaned, you may put the insecticidal ear drops inside. It is important to follow the dosage instructions from the packaging. The dosage is normally two to three drops for every ear, performed twice a day. Insecticide ear drops can be purchased from a pet supply store. They could also available in your veterinarian’s clinic. If you have other pets at home, see to it that you have them checked and treated as well.
Natural Remedies
There are natural remedies for cat ear mites. Cat owners can mix nine drops of yellow dock root extract with one tablespoon of water. An eyedropper can be used to put the mixture into your cat's ear. Massage the ear and repeat this process every three days for six weeks.
Another natural remedy is green tea. What you can do is to dip green tea in hot water for three to four minutes. Once cooled down, you can apply it onto the ears of your pet. You see, green tea has antiseptic properties which make it ideal to rid your pet of ear mites. Massage it gently from the outside (of the ears) for even distribution, and this procedure can be done for 30 days.
Our friend from the kitchen, vinegar, could also be used. Mix one part vinegar to two parts water and then place in the cat's ears. This is beneficial because acidity kills the mites. However, if your cat has noticeable wounds or irritation, this method may sting.
As a responsible pet owner, it is your job to make sure your cat does not suffer any discomfort as brought about by mites and other parasites. Therefore, by using the aforementioned tips, you can certainly ensure prevention and remedy for your cat should he have these parasites thriving in his ears.
